This Week's Show and Updates
Hips
[info]kccrdeadair
Hello there everyone!

As you hopefully already know, this week's show is the last show of the year! The studio is closed to us during the summer, and so I will be gone until September! Tune in this week at 6:00 to listen to the final show!

I will be featuring on my show a song by a local band, the Smilin' Scandinavians. The singer of this group, Dannielle Hanson, is a student at PLU and took voice lessons last year with my voice teacher. They're great, and very unique. Head on over to their Myspace music page to give them a listen!

I also have a surprise in store for you on the show, so you really do not want to miss this week's show!

I would like to briefly update you on my job search: Alex and I did not, unfortunately, get the Promotions Director position with KCCR for next year. I am sure that whoever the GMs chose will do a great job. They have to be good, in order to beat out Alex and me as a joint package!

I have, however, landed a summer job at PLU, working in the Development office. This is very exciting, because finding a summer job at PLU is very tough this year! So I'm not too down in the dumps about not getting the KCCR job. And I assure you, my lovely listeners, that I will continue to dedicate the same time and energy to my show next year.

See you this Thursday, and I'll be back on the air in September. Until then, stay up to date here, on Facebook, and on Twitter!

Signing off,
DJ Sarizzle

Let's Finish The Alphabet With: The Remainder Of The ABC's!
Torso
[info]kccrdeadair
I admit it, as the year wraps up I am beginning to get lazy with my show themes. It occurred to  me last week that when I did my Condensced ABC's show, I only did half of the alphabet! So I figured, I could fit the rest of the alphabet in to this week's show. So, here are the missing letters from the last show!

Playlist:
ABC - Jackson 5
All I Want Is You - Barry Louis Polisar
Cheated Hearts - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Dashboard - Modest Mouse
Falling Down - Atreyu
A Million Ways - OK Go
Neon Bible - Arcade Fire
P.S. I Love You - The Beatles
Queen Anne's Revenge - Flogging Molly
Tail End Charlie - Glenn Miller Orchestra
Uncle Jonny - The Killers
Walk Idiot Walk - The Hives
XO - Fall Out Boy
You're Timeless To Me - From the Hairspray movie soundtrack
Zero To Hero - From Disney's Hercules

This is my second to last show for this season, folks! I will be gone all summer until September! If you would like to know when Dead Air with Sarah Wise will return (as opposed to a summer of regular, boring dead air), stay tuned right here or join my Facebook Group! You may also opt in to receive email alerts, by commenting in this post (you may make a comment private if you do not want anyone but me seeing your email address), or you may email me at wise.sarahe@gmail.com!

Thank you for listening all season long! See you next week for a Final Week of Finals!

Job Searching Within Student Media
Full
[info]kccrdeadair
This evening, I had my joint interview with Alex for the Promotions Director at KCCR next year. Alex and I are applying together for next year, as we will be studying away for different semsters next year.

Hilary and Emily, our fearless GMs, are also splitting their position. Emily will be studying away in the fall (like Alex), and Hilary and I will be in London in the spring. So the two of them interviewed Alex and me. Alex and I suggested that we have our interview over dinner, offering the GMs a chance to eat in the middle of their long, exhaustive interview period!

The interview was fun and laid-back, and I think that it went really well. Alex and I work well together, and we balance each other out. We are also very enthusiastic and full of several great ideas, and we offer different abilities, so we can help and teach each other. Hopefully we get the position!

I also have an interview tomorrow with The Mast for an editor position for next year. I have never worked for a newspaper before, but I have always been interested in it. This would be a fun new experience! So we will see how that goes.

One more student media job opportunity is coming up, and that is KCNS. I am interviewing with the GM of KCNS, Andrea, on Tuesday. We will discuss my show plans and ideas for next year. This one I know I will probably get. Andrea has been telling me for months how much she would like to get me on my own show at KCNS! This is rather exciting, and lots of good news!

I'm So Tired, All I Can Think About Anymore Is: Sleep

The school year is coming to an end here at PLU, and that means that suddenly everything is due. I'm starting to feel worn out and overrun! And so this week, when I had yet to prepare my show as Thursday evening rolled around, all I could think about was sleeping. Thus, a show theme was born!

This week folks, I bring you an entire show of sleep and night!

Playlist
Who Needs Sleep? - Barenaked Ladies
The Lion Sleeps Tonight - From Disney's The Lion King
I'm Only Sleeping - The Beatles
Emenius Sleepus - Green Day
Sleeping In - The Postal Service
A Hard Day's Night - The Beatles
Sleeping Lessons - The Shins
I'm So Tired - The Beatles
Tired Of You - Foo Fighters
Midnight Show - The Killers
The District Sleeps Alone Tonight - The Postal Service
I Won't Spend Another Night Alone - The Ataris
Eat, Sleep, Repeat - Copeland
Night And Day - Billie Holiday
Daydream - The Lovin' Spoonful

That's all for this week, see you next week, with only two shows to go this year!

Tonight's show, I came in to the studio to discover that the mixer was not in the studio! This mixer is what I plug my laptop in to, so that I may play my show. So I scrambled to put my show together using the itunes music library on the studio computer, and finding songs on the internet as well.

I couldn't get my planned playlist, but I got most of it. And so, I was able to succesfully bring you a theme of boys, men, and everything male-related.

Playlist:
I Want to be the Boy to Warm Your Mother's Heart - The White Stripes
The London Boys - David Bowie
Boys Better - The Dandy Warhols
My Moon My Man - Feist
Here Comes Your Man - Pixies
Boys of Summer - The Ataris
Boys? - Franz Ferdinand
Spaceman - The Killers
My Boyfriend's Back - Jersey Boys Cast
New World Man - Rush
Smile Like You Mean It - The Killers
Walk Like a Man - Jersey Boys Cast
Working Man - Rush
Somebody Told Me - The Killers

Off to A Shakey Start, But It's Eventually: Condensed ABCs
Torso
[info]kccrdeadair
Today's show was a tad interesting. I brought in a guest, Katie Blatman, to help me run my show this week and to promote a book that we are doing lots of work on promoting at the moment. Due to some technical difficulties tonight, the show consisted of some true dead air. It did not take me long, however, to get the show up and running!

The theme this week was supposed to be the ABCs - songs in alphabetical order. However, I could not fit 26 songs in to an hour-long time slot, so I played the condensed ABCs. The technical difficulties that I was up against also did not help, so my A, C, and D songs never got played on air, and two filler songs were played instead. We got things fixed by letter E, so the show was a condensed alphabet, from E to Z.

The show was a good one, however, so no worries there!

Playlist:
Got To Get You Into My Life - The Beatles
Mr. Brightside - The Killers
Eleanor Put Your Boots On - Franz Ferdinand
Glamourous Indie Rock And Roll - The Killers
Hung Up - Madonna
I Walk The Line - Leonard Nimoy
A Jackknife To A Swan - The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Knights of Cydonia - Muse
Le Disko - Shiny Toy Guns
Ooh La - The Kooks
Requiem For a Dying Song - Flogging Molly
Sophisticated Side Ponytail - Natalie Portman's Shaved Head
Vince The Loveable Stoner - The Fratellis

Shameless Promoting and Tomorrow's Show

[info]kccrdeadair
Hello again!

I apologize for not doing my show yesterday, I was in Seattle filming a book club for a local author. I am in a class helping to promote a book that will be released this summer called The Motion of the Ocean: 1 Small Boat, 2 Average Lovers, and a Woman's Search for the Meaning of Wife by Janna Cawrse Esarey.

My group is making a book trailer for this book, a web news letter, a flyer, and a blog! And I have gotten the blog off to it's tiny little start, so you should mosey on over to The Motion of the Ocean: Charting the Course for a Successful Book Launch!

In other exciting news, I have an interview next week with KJR FM, a classic rock station in Seattle, for a summer internship.

And last but not least, as for tomorrow's radio show, I have my second guest coming in, so be sure to tune in!

No Show This Week, But Other Exciting News
Full
[info]kccrdeadair
Hello all you listeners out there!

This week, I will not be doing my show, due to a class commitment I have at the same time. DJ Salvador (AKA Emily) will be coming in to play a recording of my March 26th show, Rarities. However, if you have missed any of the last three shows, you may now listen to them online! Here is a quick link to where you may listen to my recorded shows: Listen Now!

You may also download my recorded shows to your own computer. Links are provided in the individual show archives (which you may access here), or you may go here to download any of my recorded shows. These are organized by show date and title. There is a limit to downloading songs. If you are unable to download because the server is too busy, try again later or on a different day.

In other news: I mentioned in my last update that I have applied for promotions director for next year at KCCR. Rumor has it, nobody else has applied! The current promotions director will be studying away for the fall semester next year, and I will be studying away for the spring semester, so I have suggested that we run as a joint team to fill the position for next school year. Things are looking in our favor!

Lastly: To any PLU voice students, I would like to do a feature on you! I am looking for recordings on tape, CD, or MP3 of one song performed by PLU voice students. If you are interested in being a part of this show, please email me at wisese@plu.edu

This Week...I Just: Don't Know
Full
[info]kccrdeadair
I could not come up with a theme for this week's show, folks! I let you down. I was unprepared, like a bad, lazy college student, and could not think of an exciting and creative theme to do my show on. Just as I was thinking that "I don't know what to do with myself!" that White Stripes song popped in my head...and this week's theme of "Knowing" (or not knowing) came to me. Brilliant!

Playlist
I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself - The White Stripes
The Piano Knows Something I Don't Know - Panic! At The Disco
All We Know - Paramore
Know Your Onion! - The Shins
Don't Know Why - Norah Jones
I Know Where I've Been - Queen Latifa from Hairsray Movie Soundtrack
All You Can Ever Learn Is What You Already Know - The Ataris
You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison - My Chemical Romance
You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do What You're Told) - The White Stripes
Does Your Mother Know - ABBA
Your Mother Should Know - The Beatles
Everybody Know's You Cried Last Night - The Fratellis
For Reason's Unknown - The Killers
God Only Knows - The Beach Boys
What Do I Know? - Copeland
Do You Want to Know a Secret - The Beatles
Where Everybody Knows Your Name - Cheers Theme Song

Today's show featured technical difficulties and my amazing talents which caused me to bonk my head on the microphone. I really, truly, just do not know what to do with myself.

That's all for this week!

Update from the Studio
Full
[info]kccrdeadair
Hello out there in cyberland, listeners!

I am still in the process of getting recordings of the show up. I had a few, but I just listened to one and it...is a recording of the studio, not my radio stream. Meaning: you can hear everything going on in the studio. Like chatting college students while the show is on air. So some more work is needed. Hopefully the ever-elusive tech manager can help out with this one.

So I'll keep working on bringing you recordings! I suppose if that doesn't work, I can always post the other recordings and you can listen to the behind the scenes stuff.

But that is not the sole purpose of this post!

Pictures is the reason of this post!

Allow me to show you what happens behind the scenes in the KCCR studio!
Follow me darlings! )

That's all for this current update. I'll keep working on those recordings!

Also, wish me luck everyone: I have applied for the Promotions Director position at KCCR for next year. Fingers crossed!

That's a Long Title, It Must Be: 7 Words or Longer!
Torso
[info]kccrdeadair
I've had a lot of odd suggestions for show themes. What I took from that was that I needed to come up with some more unique and creative themes. So, I came up with this theme on my own: songs that have seven or more words in the title. Have you ever noticed that it is mainly older bands that like wordy titles? Well, older bands and, of course, Fall Out Boy and Panic! At the Disco. Those guys LOVE words, I guess.

Playlist:

We Have All The Time In the World - Louis Armstrong
They Can't Take That Away From Me - Frank Sinatra
Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind? - The Lovin' Spoonful
When You Thought You'd Never Stand Out - Copeland
I Want You, I Need You, I Love You - Elvis Presley
It's True That We Love One Another - The White Stripes
She Came In Through the Bathroom Window - The Beatles
What Do You Do For Money Honey - AC/DC
My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down (Bonzo Goes to Bitburg) - The Ramones
If I Ever Leave This World Alive - Flogging Molly
I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself - The White Stripes
Between The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea - Frank Sinatra
The Wife, The Kids, and the White Picket Fence - Fair to Midland
I Want You So Hard (Boys Bad News) - Eagles of Death Metal
The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage - Panic! At the Disco
Our Lawyer Made Us Change The Name of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued - Fall Out Boy
I Just Wasn't Made For These Times - The Beach Boys

I actually got tired of looking for songs with long titles after a while, because I have an exhaustive collection of music in my itunes, and counting word titles is...well, less than exciting. I promise a better theme next time folks!

My Boyfriend's Back and He's Brought You: Rarities
Hips
[info]kccrdeadair
It's Spring Break, folks. So for this show, I brought my boyfriend in who does not go to PLU, and therefore cannot help me with my radio show very much.

So, for this week's show, I had my very first guest DJ, Jesse! And Jesse put together a playlist for the show of some rarities and unique songs. Let's see what cool stuff he brought for us:

Playlist:
My Boyfriend's Back - Jersey Boys Original Cast
Diamond's Are a Girl's Best Friend - Marylin Monroe and Swing Cats
Strange and Unprepared - Copeland
Train Song - Ben Gibbard and Feist
In This Twilight - Nine Inch Nails
Soft Rocked By Me - Jonathan Coulton
Boogie in Your Butt - Eddie Murphy
Sunday Bloody Sunday - Saul Williams
Runnin' Down a Dream - Wednesday 13
Desolation Row - My Chemical Romance
The Man Who Sold the World - Nirvana
Viva Las Vegas - Johnny Ramone
Losing My Religion - Scary Kids, Scaring Kids
Somebody Put Something In My Drink - Children of Bodom
Last Kiss - Pearl Jam
Many Shades of Black - The Raconteurs

I even found a way to make a theme out of this, sticking with my theme of, er, well, themes. I think this is another good show for the history books.

Welcome to Dead Air with Sarah Wise!
Hips
[info]kccrdeadair
Hello all you people out there in cyberland.
For a radio show, I sure reach a lot of you internets people. I suppose that's what you get when your radio station is only streamed online!

This is my new Livejournal for my student radio show, Dead Air with Sarah Wise. I assure you, I do not really play dead air. At least, I try not to. Technical difficulties do arise. They're not my fault, of course, because I am awesome. Or something like that.

The purpose of this journal is to offer archives of my past radio shows. Although I just created my livejournal today, I have backdated all of my shows prior to today.

There are two ways to search for my shows:
In the memory tags: Shows are listed by date and theme (which is essentially a title). This is probably the easiest way to search. All shows are listed under "Show" in the memory tags.
In the archives: The archives is just a calendar view that Livejournal kindly offers you. This will show you every day I have posted an entry to my journal. You can find a show if you know the date that it aired this way. This way, however, will also show you journal entries like this one, which is not a show archive.

As of right now, the only thing I can offer in my show archives is playlists for each show. I am working on recording my show, so hopefully I will soon be able to offer recordings of my shows for people.

I will always post radio shows on the date of the show (so each Thursday will have a new show). Updates and announcements pertaining to the show or the studio may be posted whenever I feel like it. So stay tuned for whatever I post!

Thanks for reading, thanks for listening, and welcome to Dead Air with Sarah Wise on Livejournal!

It's Not An Attack It's: A British Invasion
Torso
[info]kccrdeadair
In honor of holding tickets to see Lily Allen (yaaaay!) on April 6th, the theme for this show was a British Invasion.

...Only...by "British" I really meant "United Kingdom". It was really quite depressing when I discovered The Fratellis are actually Scottish, not British. And I really, really wanted to play The Fratellis. That's right: I did more research for this show. So I broadened my horizons without changing my name.

...and then I threw Elvis in, because I could. Well, and he was singing a song written by Sir Paul McCartney. You just don't get a "Sir" in front of your name if you're not British. A quite silly British man once said that the Queen is just an old lady with a shiny hat. And that old lady with her lovely shiny hat does NOT grace your shoulders with a sword and call you "Sir" unless you're somebody.

Playlist coming soon.

I should have just had a Commonwealth show. Then I could have included Flogging Molly, U2, and Men at Work.
I also really wish I had Herman's Hermits on my laptop, because Henry The Eighth is one of the best songs to come out of England ever. (And eighth is quite an annoying word to spell...have you ever noticed that? That poor 't' is surrounded by 'h's!)

Okay, enough silliness! Back to your lives, all of you!

I'm 'Enry the Eighth I am, 'Enry the Eighth I am, I am

She's been married seven times before!
And every one was an "Enry ('Enry!)
She wouldn't have a Willy or a Sam (no sir!)
I'm her eighth old man I'm 'Enry
'Enry the Eighth I am, I am
'Enry the Eighth I am!

Second verse, same as the first!

The crummy thing about subjects is that if they're too long, LJ will cut them. In stupid places. So I cut down the subject myself, which means that my quote is not 100% accurate. But oh well.

This week's show was a tribute to Saturday Night Live! I did research for this show folks: RESEARCH. So I know my facts were straight.

Playlist coming soon.

I didn't play this song, but thanks to Saturday Night Live, I cannot take Single Ladies by Beyonce seriously. First time I heard that song was on SNL. They had a couple guys (and Justin Timberlake) dressed in leotards, pantyhose, and high heels. They were the dancers. Best line evar:

Are you guys warmed up?
Oh, we're warm like biscuits.
.....we're the dancers.

Like a Pilot, Only Not: Girls

[info]kccrdeadair
My very first show!

I don't know if this really counts, actually. I accidentally deleted my playlist. I can tell you that I started with The New Girl In Town from Hairspray (because I was the new girl on the radio!) and I ended with Thank You Girl by The Beatles (as a thank you to myself).

However, I forgot to tell anybody that I was having my show. So I don't think anybody even tuned in to listen. No listeners, no playlist, no recording of the show. It's as if the show never happened.

I still count it as my first show. It went rather well, too.

Oh well. Consider it a pilot, or even just a rehearsal, or count it as my first show. It's here in the archives.
